Exodus 29 – 31
This is all quite gory. The priests and alter get sprinkled with blood quite a bit. While this seems absurd and bloodthristy, the point, I suppose is for it to be really unpleasant. Salvation come from the blood of Christ, which wasn’t pleasant for Him, and thus the whole Old Testament system needed to show this.
The incense is to be used only for the purpose it was made. The recipe is given and they weren’t to use other incense for worship, and they weren’t to use the given recipe for purposes other than given.
The thing here I like is that the two artisans were given their skills by God. We’re all given talents and to not use them is somewhat of an insult to the Creator (the parable of the talents is about this). The talents given to us can be used for many things, most notably making a living, which is no doubt what the artisans did with their talents. When God calls us to do something for Him with these talents, we should acknowledge that while He wants us to take care of ourselves, He also wants us to use them for His glory.
